Moments Lacking Inspiration

Winter Part Deux, or as most people call it, Spring, remains in Portland. The rain is slowly tapering off and the temperature has come up a few degrees, but the overcast skies continue. It could be worse, of course, I could live...anywhere else. And I have. I'll take the rain until they accept my application for citizenship in New Zealand or Australia. With any luck I could spend six months here and six months there.

I just barely got all my training in under the wire this week. I squeaked it out with the rubber band workout and some stretching. I'm waiting for a tai chi dvd to come available at the library to add to my repertoire. As my training hours continue to ramp up, I'll be adding some swimming, which I've been severely short-changing, with the knowledge that it's my strongest sport and the shortest portion of a triathlon. I'll also add at least one additional run workout to bring it up to a paltry two.

So far I've been getting away with bike commutes to work, my physical therapy and a little running to get my training time in. As I start to hit 10, 11, and 12 hours, I'll be gradually increasing time dedicated to running and swimming.

Intensity is vaguely a concern because I much prefer the long, plodding workouts, rather than the high-intensity training. I figure I'll see what happens at the half in September (http://www.racecenter.com/blackdiamond/) and in the meantime ratchet up the intensity a bit. With luck, some of the preparation I've done for my knees will allow a higher level of intensity for the running and possibly even the bike.
