Training Update

This is shaping up to be a pretty good training week. I knocked ten minutes off my morning bike in to work today. Total workout time for the week will round out to just over ten hours. I have made an executive, mid-season decision. To maintain my happy disposition, I’m going to alternate long training weeks with short training weeks.

So this week I’ve gone ten hours for the week. Next week I’ll cut back to five hours. The following week, twelve hours, then 6, then 14, then 7 and so on until the taper weeks in September. My peak training week should be 20 hours if I've done the figuring correctly.

If I continue bike commuting, on the short training weeks I may only bike and do some stretching and weights, since my bike commute is somewhere in the two hour range per day. It is a minor gamble to neglect the swim and run training, but I’m guessing that in September I’ll still knock a minimum of 30 minutes off my best half IM time.

I predict that in five weeks I will make another adjustment to this scheme.
