Yesterday I ran eight miles. I started out at 13 minutes per mile and bumped it up .01 on the treadmill every .1 mile until I hit the ten minute mile mark, then increased .1 every mile. After about two miles I decided to run it like I was just running 6 miles to increase the intensity a little bit. It actually turned out pretty well, I got the six miles done in just under an hour (not a great time, but not bad for this point in the season) and then was able to maintain the same intesity for the last two miles, at which point I decreased .01 every .1 mile.
The moral of the story is I was able to complete the eight miles in the same time it took me to finish seven miles last week. Plus I felt pretty strong the whole way through, so my pacing was also greatly improved. Last week I peaked at too high a pace and just ran out of steam, dropping back to about 13 minute miles for the last two miles.
Even though this is the dullest post I’ve ever seen, I’m posting it anyway, as a benchmark for the future when I’m a star blogger, I can look back and say, “remember when your posts were really boring…”
